East to Norwich

 20 July

It was my sincerest hope, this morning, to get back onto the intended schedule of trains, and it was largely successful.
Doncaster is busy.  Train due now but is 31min late

Got my reserved seat although someone was keeping it warm
Just crossed the River Trent at Althorpe. No photos, I must be slowing down.

 Barnetby,  for train to Lincoln.
There are no lifts here but an exceedingly long 4-way ramp which must be about 100m long in total and contain more steel than four lifts! It must surely take the average person nearly 5 minutes to cross the tracks using the ramps on each side.

Two stops to Lincoln,  running 23min late

 Well kept little station

 River Witham

 Sincil Dike

 Lincoln station
 Time for water

Service to Peterborough with some water, only 18min late

 River Glen

 Vernatts Drain
Just learnt that my train to Ely is cancelled but there's another 1hr later

All day today I've heard announcements that absolutely no trains will go to London King's Cross but they are now leaving Peterborough platform 2 regularly.

  Here's a useful item

 The 1716 to Ely

 Solitary large windmill

 Briggate River

 Twenty Foot River

 River Nene

 Old Bedford River

 River Great Ouse

 Awaiting the 1821 at Ely

About 50min on this train then half mile to the inn.
A young man with a baby seat and baby clothes sat on the seat to the left then told me all about his 2-week old daughter, born 2 months early, who's nearly doubled her birth weight to 1.7kg (under 4lb). Most of the carriage wished them well.

I thought Anglia was flat. What I didn't expect was the great climb up the hill to the inn. It seemed to go on for ever. Also my replacement suitcase from TKMax is very noisy indeed over rough surfaces.

Having reached the inn, I received new news that, because of the heat, kitchen staff had been sent home so no food tonight. Why no salads? Much better in the hot weather.  I had to make do with a bag of peanuts and a packet of crisps washed down with a pint, well two actually.
