Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and Ipswich
21 July
This leg of the tour has always been difficult to plan because there are only three trains per day from Great Yarmouth to Reedham and I'll be on the very first train of the day at 15:16. The next is 17:47 which wouldn't get me to Ipswich until after 9pm.
Interesting train: 2 front coaches, half-length motor unit in the middle which passengers can walk through, 2 rear coachesEverywhere I've walked since the start of this tour has been as flat as a pancake until Norfolk, renowned for being flat. A big hill in Norwich and a smaller one in Great Yarmouth.
Where would we be without computer problems? My phone received an update a couple of days ago and now the widgets of my two favourite travel apps don't work. I uninstalled Train Times UK (by Croworc) to install latest version but can't find it anywhere! I really should have checked first.
Most train apps concentrate on ticket purchase these days, my favourite just showed time expected, destination and platform for next few trains on the widget. Very useful indeed. Would have been very helpful tomorrow with 11 trains to catch.
On the station's information board is a walk. Goes to three pubs and ends at a brewery! I'll be back.
This train doesn't depart for 15min but I can recharge the phone for over an hour. In my travels so far I think the only trains without phone/laptop charging points is Southeastern.Ten minute walk to Penta Hotel at Ipswich. My first time at a Penta. All corridors seem to be painted mid-grey with no floral or arty displays so easy to get lost without these visible clues. My room is mid-green, presumably they all are.
